Suffield, Connecticut (September 1, 2022) – Dave Jones and Will Morris shared the title at the Suffield Country Club Siderowf Division One Day Tournament presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop.
On a picture-perfect first day of September Jones and Morris, both shot 1-under 71s to finish one stroke in front of Eric Litke and Tom Brett both of whom tied for third at level-par. Stuart Goldstein, Keith Kelly, Glen Boggini, and Jeff Dolin finished 2-over to earn a tie for fifth and round out the top five.
Jones, just days removed from competing in the U.S. Senior Amateur, had an up and down round recording six birdies and five bogeys. Playing the back nine at Suffield CC, a quaint nine-hole course, Jones showed his best form between Nos. 13-17 rolling in three birdies in five holes to play the stretch in 3-under. For Jones, his victory on Thursday was his third One Day title of the season to go along with his win at the Senior Match Play Championship.
Morris took a winding route to the top of the leaderboard. On his first nine, Morris put together an impressive 3-under 33 with four birdies and just one bogey. However, on the back nine is when things got interesting. Following a par on the 10th, he bogeyed No. 11 and then triple-bogeyed the par-5 12th. Seemingly in a free fall, Morris responded with an eagle on the ensuing par-5 before completing his day with a bogey on No. 15 and one final birdie on the 17th.
In the Net Division Tom Frechette (-2) earned the title followed by Brett (-1) in second, Litke and Peter Murphy tied for third at even-par while Goldstein Randy Black, Tom Hurd, Roger Celinski, and Morris shared fifth at 1-over.
