CSGA Adds Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship

(March 9, 2022) – In 2022 the Connecticut State Golf Association will add the Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship to its calendar. The tournament, scheduled for July 11-12, will become the 20th championship on the CSGA schedule.

With the addition of the Connecticut Girls’ Junior, the CSGA will now host three junior events each season. The championship joins the Junior Amateur and the Borck Memorial Junior which includes both a boys and girls division.
“We are thrilled to announce this additional championship for our competitive junior girl players in the state,” said Marsha Rupp, Director of CSGA Tournament Operations & Women’s Golf. “The new Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur is a continuation of CSGA’s mission to expand and promote opportunities for girls golf. With a growing junior division in our Connecticut Women’s Amateur, the addition of the Borck Junior in 2020, and now this 36-hole stroke play Girls’ Junior Championship. We couldn’t be more excited to offer this inaugural competition in 2022 and look forward to seeing its growth in the decades ahead!”
The Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship will be played at Watertown Golf Club concurrent with the first two days of the Connecticut Junior Amateur. Girls have always been eligible to compete in the Connecticut Junior Amateur Championship and have done so on occasion throughout the history of the event. However, 2022 will mark the first time that the CSGA will have a unique Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship on the calendar.
“We are really looking forward to crowning the CSGA’s first Connecticut Girls’ Junior Champion,” said Mike Moraghan, CSGA Executive Director. “And for all the participants we look to create a wonderful experience that will create great memories for each of them, and further expand their passion for competitive golf.”
The 36-hole event will begin with the first round on Monday, July 11th before concluding with the final round on Tuesday, July 12th. Girls who have not reached their 19th birthday as of July 11, 2022 and meet the CSGA member club and championship handicap maximum criteria will be eligible.
