May 13th, 2013 – Cool and breezy conditions greeted players for the third One Day Tournament of the 2013 season at Chippanee Golf Club in Bristol, Connecticut. Cody Paladino of Wethersfield CC and Lou Stone of New Haven CC claimed the individual titles in their respective divisions.

Chippanee Golf Club, founded in 1923, plays to a par 70 and 6,310 yards from the Championship tees. Although short on paper by today’s standards, the course features small, undulating greens and narrow fairways that proved challenging with the 20+ mph wind that the players faced during their round. Cody Paladino of Wethersfield Country Club recorded the only under par round of the tournament, shooting a one-under par 69 to capture the Tettelbach Division by four shots.

Paladino, the 2006 Dick Tettelbach Player of the Year, began his round in dramatic fashion, chipping in on the par-5, 540 yard 4th hole for eagle. However, Holes #7-12, which played as the hardest stretch for the day, proved difficult as Paladino would bogey #7, #10 and #11. Known for finishing strong, Paladino would go on to birdie three of his last five holes, including closing birdies at #17 and #18. He will get a chance to build on his impressive performance next week, when he vies for the 10th Russell C. Palmer Cup at the Country Club of Waterbury on May 20th – 21st.

In the Siderowf Division, Lou Stone of New Haven Country Club captured his second One Day Tournment of the 2013 Season with an even-par round of 70. Stone, known throughout the state for his consistency in the One Day Tournament Series, made only two bogies on Holes #2 and #13 which were balanced by early birdies on Holes #3 and #5. His One Day scoring average of 72.3 is a full two shots lower than any other player who has competed in all three One-Day Tournaments. With his win, he also continued to build an impressive lead in the One Day Player of the Year Points Standings.

Net Division Winners included Steve Jordan of Pomperaug GC, who captured the Tettelbach Net Division with a 4-under par round of 66, and Samuel Rio of Gillette Ridge GC, who captured the Siderowf Net Division with a round of 3-under par 67.

With their wins, Kevin Ward, Steve Jordan, Lou Stone and Rich Kowal now lead their respective divisions in the One Day Player of the Year Race, sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop. New for 2013, the One Day Player of the Year and Runner-Up in each division will be awarded merchandise certificates at Chris Cote’s Golf Shop in Portland, Connecticut. Players will accumulate points based on their finish in individual One Day Tournaments throughout the season.
