April 15th, 2013 – The first CSGA One Day Tournament of the 2013 season concluded Monday at the Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane, with Dave Jones of Mohegan Sun Country Club at Pautipaug capturing Medalist honors with a round of 73. Cold and Spring-like conditions made scoring extremely difficult for the 116 competitors at Oak Lane, a course that is widely regarded as one of Connecticut’s most difficult layouts. Jones played steady the entire day, recording two birdies, one bogey and one double bogey on the par-72 6,330 yard golf course. His round of 1-over par score of 73 was enough to win the Tettelbach Division by 3 shots over Ben Day of New Haven Country Club, who shot a 4-over par round of 76.

Lou Stone (pictured above) also captured the 2012 One Day Championship

Lou Stone of New Haven Country Club captured the Siderowf division with a round of 74 (+2) by a single shot over Bob Spaniotis of Glastonbury Hills Country Club. Stone made the turn in 39 strokes, but found trouble early on his back nine and stood at 6-over par heading to the 16th hole. He would go on to birdie the par-4 16th hole, eagle the reachable par-5 17th, and close with a birdie on the par-4 18th.

Net Division Winners included Tony Susi of Mohegan Sun Country Club at Pautipaug, who captured the Tettelbach Net Division with 73 (+1), and Frank Flood of Westwoods Golf Course, who captured the Siderowf Net Division with a round of 65 (-7).

With their wins, Dave Jones, Lou Stone, Tony Susi, and Frank Flood now lead their respective divisions in the One Day Player of the Year Race, sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop. New for 2013, the One Day Player of the Year and Runner-Up in each division will be awarded merchandise certificates at Chris Cote’s Golf Shop in Portland, Connecticut. Players will accumulate points based on their finish in individual One Day Tournaments throughout the season.
