Historic Wampanoag Country Club welcomed the state’s best father and son teams as the 76th playing of the Father & Son Championship took place today. After being cancelled on Monday, the 55 teams competing enjoyed beautiful weather and a tremendous golf course on Tuesday. The format for today’s championship was foursomes (selected drive) stroke play.
The team of Dr. Bob Jr. and Brendan Ruby claimed their first Father & Son title as they shot a 67 (-5) on the par 72, 6,418 yard Donald Ross layout. The Rubys, who play out of Madison Country Club, made just one bogey against six birdies during their round. Playing in the second to last group, the Ruby’s score edged clubhouse leaders and three time champions Dale and Matt Smith. The Smiths shot a 69 (-3) on the day and looked to be in great position to claim their fourth title.
Finishing just one shot behind the Smiths in a three way tie for third was the Szewczuls (Dave and David), Buggs (Steven and Maxx), and Waddingtons (Derek and Nick). All three teams played tremendous golf, shooting a 70 (-2) and finishing just three shots back of the winners.
The CSGA thanks Wampanoag Country Club for hosting a wonderful event. Fathers and sons alike enjoyed the golf course and the opportunity to compete together in the 76th Father & Son Championship.
