2021 Al Acker One Day Championship Will Be a Race to the Finish

(October 3, 2021) – The CSGA’s 2021 Chris Cote’s Golf Shop One Day Tournament Series will conclude on Tuesday with the 20th Al Acker One Day Championship Invitational hosted by Shennecossett Golf Course in Groton. Heading into the season culminating event there is still plenty at stake with a number of players still in the running to earn One Day Player of the Year honors.

The CSGA awards a One Day Tournament Player of the Year winner in both the Tettelbach (Open) and Siderowf (Senior) Divisions, gross and net. Players accumulate points based on their finishes in One Day Tournaments throughout the season with a total of $4,000 in merchandise certificates donated by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop awarded to the top three finishers in each divisional category. While players accumulate points in both the gross and net categories, they may only win in one.

Players qualify for the Al Acker One Day Championship Invitational by finishing in the top five including ties in the gross or net category in the Tettelbach and Siderowf divisions at any One Day Tournament. Following the last regular One Day tournament, all of the eligible qualifiers in each division will be ranked using their highest One Day Player of the Year points accrued throughout the season from either the net or gross category. The first 54 players on the ranked list of eligible players for each division were extended an invitation to play and register for the One Day Championship, with alternates invited on a space available basis.

Tee Times

In most years the season long One Day Player of the Year races are all but wrapped up by the time the first balls pierce the air along the Connecticut coast. However, this year three of the four One Day Player of the Year races are still up for grabs with a number of players still in the mix. The One Day Siderowf Gross Player of the Year was won by Dave Jones thanks in large part to his strong early season play that saw him capture five victories.

The gross and net winners of each division at the 20th Al Acker One Day Championship Invitational will earn 150 points. Here is a look at the players who lead the three remaining One Day Player of the Year races and the players that still have a chance to move into the top spot. Many thanks to Chris Cote’s Golf Shop for sponsoring the CSGA’s One Day Tournament Series and One Day Player of the Year races which provide season long excitement for all of the players.
