Hamden, Connecticut (May 15, 2025) – For the eighth consecutive year the Connecticut State Golf Association has captured the Julius Boros Challenge Cup.

On an unseasonably chilly and overcast day at New Haven Country Club the CSGA battled their way to a 42.5-29.5 victory over the Connecticut Section PGA in the 54th playing of the annual matches. The CSGA has won all but one of the matches during its eight-year winning streak by double digits. The lone exception came in 2022.

“The Challenge Cup is always a great event that all the players look forward to,” ninth-year team captain Roger Everin said. “You never know what the outcome is going to be each year. I told the players that they can’t be thinking about winning or any streaks or anything like that. I asked them to compete at the level that I knew they were capable of and they responded.”

On a day when all eight CSGA teams earned at least 1.5 points, it was the rookie tandem of Justin Beal and Tim Bickford who led the way as they earned the full allotment of nine points.

The CSGA also received big days from Ashton Lewis/Adam Friedman (6.5 points), Patrick McGuiness/Michael Hooper (6.5 points), Mike Kenndey/Rick Hayes (5 points),  Jamie Sheltman/Ben Day (5 points), and Dave Jones/Brian Hedstrom (5 points).

Rounding out the scoring for the CSGA were Rick Dowling/Anthony Guerrera (4.5 points) and Chris Flowers/John Steinberg (1.5 points).

“I’m so proud and excited for each of them,” continued Everin. “I am excited to come back again next year to try and do it all over again.”

Meanwhile, the Connecticut Section PGA which leads the all-time series 34-21 was led by Marc Bayram and Brad Lusenhop who earned a team best 7.5 points while Chris Tallman and CJ Konkowski earned 4.5 points.
