(April 6, 2022) – The 2022 Connecticut State Golf Association season begins on Monday at Stonington Country Club with the first event of the One Day Series presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop.
Chilly and windy weather will greet the players in the first event of the season with temperatures expected to be in the upper 50s but it will feel much cooler thanks to winds that will gust between 10-15 mph throughout the day. Despite the forecasted conditions a full field is expected to compete in the first event of the season.
Designed by Al Zikorus the first nine holes of the course were opened in August of 1992 with the final nine holes opened a little less than two years later in the spring of 1994.

The par-72 track will play at 6,604 yards for the Tettlebach Division and 6,154 yards for the Siderowf Division. Players will have a scoring opportunity early with a par-5 to start but if last year’s One Day Tournament is any indication – when only two players broke par – birdies will be few and far between.
Always a challenging course, Stonington CC features undulating greens and some wooded areas on the back nine that require shot shaping. However, it is the wind that can present the biggest challenge.

“The wind tends to be pretty prevalent,” said first-year Head Professional and Rhode Island native Justin Turner who recently moved back east after nine years in California working at PGA West. “If it is cold and windy the greens can be firm and that will be a real challenge for the players.”
Last year the One Day Series presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop set a record for number of participants with more than 1,800 players competing. This year with additional tournaments on the schedule – 19 regular season events plus the Al Acker One Day Championship scheduled for October 17th at Wethersfield Country Club – there are even more playing opportunities including the addition of two women’s events.
Women have always been welcome to play in One Day events however 2022 will mark the first time that there are women’s tournaments on the schedule. The first of the two scheduled events will be May 31st at Glastonbury Hills Country Club with the second event set for September 20th at Keney Park Golf Course.
Once again the One Day Series presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop will offer four divisions. Players 55 and under will compete in the Tettelbach Open Division and Tettlebach Net Division while players 55 and over will play in the Siderowf Gross Division and the Siderowf Net Division.
Last year Chris Cote’s Golf Shop Player of the Year honors were earned by Chris Maxwell (Tettlebach Open Division), Dave Jones (Siderowf Gross Division), Mario Argentino (Tettlebach Net Division), and Scott Harger (Siderowf Net Division).
