21st Al Acker One Day Championship Heads to Wethersfield Country Club

Wethersfield Country Club hosted the season opening One Day last year.

(October 13, 2022) – For the first time in the history of the Al Acker One Day Championship presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop the event is headed to Wethersfield Country Club.

“The CSGA is especially happy to contest the One Day Championship at Wethersfield CC, the home club of Al Acker for whom the One Day Championship is named,” said Director of Women’s Golf, Competitions & Development Marsha Rupp. “This year marks 55 years since Al Acker first joined Wethersfield CC and we are excited to celebrate our 2022 Al Acker One Day Championship winners, and 2022 One Day Player of the Year winners here in ‘Al’s house.’  We are also proud to recognize the sponsor of the One Day Series and One Day Player of the Year race, Chris Cote’s Golf Shop, in this, their tenth year.”

Tee Times

Designed by Robert D. Pryde, the par-71 Wethersfield Country Club opened in 1916. For 32 years, from 1952-1983, Wethersfield CC hosted the PGA Tour’s Insurance City Open/Greater Hartford Open. Among the winners were Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Billy Casper, and Lee Trevino. Wethersfield CC has also hosted a number of Connecticut State Golf Association events including the 2016 Connecticut Amateur won by Zach Zaback.

Player of the Year Standings

100 players are set to compete in the 21st Al Acker One Day Championship scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.

One Day players who finished in the top five and ties in the gross or net category of the Tettelbach (Open) or Siderowf (Senior) division, were eligible to participate in the One Day Championship. After the last One Day event in the regular season, all eligible qualifiers in each division were ranked using their highest One Day Player of the Year points accrued in the 2022 season, from either the gross or net category. The top 50 players in each division were extended an invitation to play, with alternates invited on a space available basis.

Upon the conclusion of play, we will award trophies and points to the gross and net One Day Championship winners in the Tettelbach and Siderowf division. With those points included in our season totals, we will award our One Day Players of the Year with prizes from Chris Cote’s Golf Shop for twelve lucky recipients! The Player of the Year contests are very close and winners will be determined by the top players at the Championship.
