Trumbull, Connecticut (July 17, 2023) – Five days ago, Annie Dai won the Connecticut Girls’ Junior. Some might take some time off and enjoy a few summer days. Instead, Dai went right back to work and on Monday at Tashua Knolls Golf Course she was the only golfer in the field to shoot under par at the 58th Connecticut Women’s Amateur finishing with a 2-under 70.
“I’ve never been more confident in my game,” said Dai (CT PGA Junior Golf Association). “Finally, my putts are starting to drop some more.”
Dai started the day with four straight pars before finding birdies on holes five and seven for a front nine 2-under 34. However, her highlight of the day was on the par-3 17th.
“That shot on 17, that was really close to a hole-in-one and got me excited going into the 18th hole,” she said about an 8-iron shot she stuck three feet from the pin from the tee about 132 yards away.
Last week, Dai held the lead going into the final round and managed to shut the door rather comfortably to secure that trophy. She hopes to do the same on Tuesday in the final round at Tashua Knolls GC.
Arabella Lopez (Redding CC), Mia Grzywinkski (CC of Farmington), and Morgan Peterson (EClub of Connecticut) all shot even par on the day. They are all tied for second place while Cindy Cao (USGA/CSGA GC) is in fifth at 1-over.
The final round of the 58th Connecticut Women’s Amateur will begin at 8:00 a.m.
