Bob Murphy, Jr. Captures 2025 Super Senior Player of the Year Award

Bob Murphy, Jr. after winning his second Connecticut Senior Amateur title.

(November 24, 2025) – Bob Murphy, Jr. has long been a standout player. But he had never been able to break into the win column despite always seeming to be in the mix. In 2020, at 60 years old he made a run to the Round of 16 at the Connecticut Amateur. In 2021, he reached the finals of the Senior Match Play. Finally, in 2023 his break through came. First, he won the Connecticut Senior Four-Ball, then a short time later, he captured his first major, the 78th Connecticut Senior Amateur.

2025 Super Senior Player of the Year Standings

Now 66 years old, Murphy, Jr. has put together his best season to date. The longtime Brownson Country Club member began his year with a run to the semifinals at the Senior Match Play Championship while also adding a Siderowf Division win at the Tournament of Champions, a victory at the Farmington Woods Golf Club One Day, a T4 finish at the Super Senior Championship, and a T20 showing at the Connecticut Senior Open.

However, his biggest moment came in early September when he birdied the final hole to win his second Connecticut Senior Amateur. All the success culminated in Murphy, Jr. winning the 2025 Super Senior Player of the Year award.

“It’s the ultimate prize at the end of the year,” Bob Murphy, Jr. said. “It’s the first time I’ve ever achieved it so it’s a really big deal.”

Murphy, Jr., who played on his third career Tri-State team in 2025 to go along with five career Julius Boros Challenge Cup appearances said of his ability to still compete at a high level. “It gets more fun every year. I don’t think I’m any less competitive than I was when I was younger. It seems like the guys that I’m playing with are all kind of in the same boat. We’re all grinding it out.”

For Murphy, Jr. the grind will continue. But for now, he will bask in the glow of his first-ever Player of the Year honor.
