Watertown, Connecticut (August 16, 2022) – The tandem of Brett Franklin and Annie Desanto turned in a splendid 1-under 70 to capture the 85th Mixed Team Championship at Watertown Golf Club. Franklin and Desanto finished an impressive five shots in front of the runner-up Mark Vassalotti and Sydney Bardsley who were 4-over.
“It means a lot to win,” Brett Franklin said. “It is nice to win anything. It is nice that we fed off of each other. When one person hit a bad shot we picked each other up.”
Competing in the event for the first time and beginning on the par-4 second hole Franklin and Desanto were 2-over after three holes before hitting their stride beginning with a birdie on the challenging par-4 eighth. That birdie would be their first of four in a five hole stretch and five overall.
Mixed in were two spectacular birdies from off the green. Desanto, a member of the Hall High School golf team, jarred one from the greenside rough while Franklin playing from the fringe clanked one off the flagstick for a birdie.
“We putted really well today,” said Franklin the head boys golf coach at Conard High School. “We scrambled and we putted pretty decently today which was a big key.”
Jason Morrow and Nicole Elliott (+5) were third with Todd Schaller/Laura Nietch and Ari Marcus/Charlotte Daughan sharing fourth at 6-over.
In the Net Division Willam and Pam Zanetto won the title with an 8-over 63. One shot further back was Jim Abbott and Paula Sheahan at 7-under while Kyle Crosby/Diane McCauley, Schaller/Nietch, Andrew Wienke/Diann Wienke, and Dennis Medeiros/Lori Caracciolo finished 6-under.
