(September 12, 2024) – Earlier this summer Brooklawn Country Club commemorated the 50th Anniversary of the 1974 U.S. Junior Amateur Championship. The championship hosts welcomed back champion David Nevatt, and runner-up, Mark Tinder for a rematch. The finalists were also joined by 1974 medalist and former PGA Tour player Chip Beck.

Nevatt and Tinder played for the 1974 U.S. Junior Amateur title on July 27 and exactly 50 years later they met at the same course for the rematch. In 1974 Nevatt got the better of Tinder earning a 4&3 victory however this time Tinder flipped the script pulling out a 2&1 win.

“Number one, I’m completely honored just to be remembered 50 years later,” Mark Tinder told Joe Morelli of CTInsider ahead of the match. “I know it’s an experience for me that I will never have again. To be that close to the national title and kind of go back in the past at least for one day is great.”

The event, which celebrated the first of five USGA events hosted by the club, was put together by Brooklawn CC’s Heritage Committee. Last fall committee head Gia Watkins, a regular in CSGA events, reached out to Nevatt and Tinder and both players jumped at the opportunity.

The foursome was rounded by Chip Beck, a three-time Ryder Cupper and the second player to shoot a 59 in PGA Tour history, and 2023 Brooklawn CC junior champion Jack Emra.
