Connecticut Women’s Amateur Returns to Tashua Knolls GC

(July 10, 2023) – For the second straight year the Connecticut Women’s Amateur will be contested at Tashua Knolls Golf Course. The field at the 58th Connecticut Women’s Amateur scheduled for July 17-18 will be highlighted by 2008 champion Jen Holland, 2021 Liz Janangelo Caron Player of the Year Mia Grzywinski, and 2022 New England Girls’ Junior champion Arabella Lopez.

“(Tashua Knolls) is thrilled to be able to host for a second consecutive year,” head professional Bobby Brown said. “The same sentiment was shared by the Tashua Golf Commission. It is an honor to have the Connecticut Women’s Amateur back again in 2023. Our organized clubs and students love seeing the events at Tashua. They are always willing to play, volunteer, or do just about anything to make any event a success at Tashua.  It’s just the Tashua culture.”

Built by Al Zikorus and opened in 1976, Tashua Knolls GC, the host of the 2017 Connecticut Amateur, is situated on land once populated by the Tamtashua tribe and later the Mallet family. Framed in many spots by stone walls built by early settlers to the region the course meanders up and down rolling hills offering players impressive views throughout their round.

However, the field will be more focused on the difficult test that the 5,700-yard par-72 layout will present.

“Last year Meghan Mitchell’s winning score was 7-over which says a lot about the subtle toughness of the course,” stated Brown. “In 2022 it seemed like Nos. 15-18 provided much difficulty. No lead is safe while trying to navigate these final four holes especially if the wind picks up.”

Brown also stressed the importance of being in a good position off the tee. Something that 2022 runner-up Mia Grzywinski echoed, “Tashua Knolls requires strategic positioning off the tee in order to set yourself up well for approach shots.”

The 58th Connecticut Women’s Amateur will begin on Monday, July 17 at 8:00 a.m. with the final round scheduled to follow on Tuesday, July 18.
