Dave Jones Medals, Two Others Qualify for 67th U.S. Senior Amateur

Old Lyme, Connecticut (July 18, 2022) – Three players advanced to the 67th U.S. Senior Amateur on a rainy Monday at the Black Hall Club. Dave Jones continued his stellar play earning medalist honors while Eric Ashworth and Robert Moriarty also punched their tickets.

Jones, the reigning Dick Siderowf Player of the Year, turned in the lone under-par round of the day signing for a 1-under 70. The day got off to an interesting start for Jones. Following a par on the opening hole he then eagled the par-5 second before giving everything back and then some with a double-bogey on No. 3 and a bogey on No. 4.

Results

A string of pars followed as Jones made the turn in 1-over 36. On the back nine Jones found another gear. After a par on the 10th he birdied four-times over the course of the final eight holes to play the difficult closing stretch in 2-under. Jones converted birdies on Nos. 11, 12, 14, and 16.

Eric Ashworth punched his ticket with an even-par 71. 2-over at the turn Ashworth played a strong back nine birdieing three-times and bogeying just once to play the side in 2-under 34.  Ashworth’s back nine birdies fell on the 13th, 14th, and 18th holes.

Robert Moriarty earned his spot into the U.S. Senior Amateur field with a 1-over 73 that included four birdies, three bogeys, and a double-bogey. The birdies for Moriarty came on Nos. 2, 9, 14, and 16.

Richard Stevens and James Abbott finished 2-over 73 to earn the first and second alternates spots.

The 67th U.S. Senior Amateur will be played at The Kittansett Club in Massachusetts from August 27-September 1.
