Brent Dietz of Cedar Knob Golf Club fired a 3-under par 69 at Bull’s Bridge on Monday to claim the overall title in the CSGA Tournament of Champions. Reigning club champions and current title-holders of ten CSGA championships were eligible for the tournament. Players competed in one of two divisions, the Tettelbach and the Siderowf (senior) Divisions.
Dietz, a former CSGA Mid-Amateur champion, played beautifully with no bogies after the second hole. He recorded birdies at the first, fourth, seventh and fourteenth holes.
2011 champion, Ben Conroy (Eclub River Valley) earned runner-up honors with a strong round of his own at 70. Two-over par through seven holes, Conroy played his last eleven holes at four-under. Aaron Gross (New Haven Country Club) finished third with an even par 72.
In the Siderowf Division of senior champions, Glastonbury Hill’s Bob Spaniotis fired a one-under par 71 for a three shot victory over Bill Torza (Timberlin) and David Czaplicki (Hamden Marketing) who each shot 74. Spaniotis recorded three birdies, two bogies and thirteen pars to claim his second consecutive Siderowf Division title at Bull’s Bridge.
Players were unanimous in their praise for the scenic, 6,992 yard Bull’s Bridge Golf Club layout. Green speeds were reported at 11.5 and playing conditions were perfect throughout the course.
