Goshen, Connecticut (August 29, 2022) – In extra holes the tandem of Matt and Andrew Dunn captured the 86th Father & Son Championship hosted by Torrington Country Club.

Squaring off against Jay (Lyman Orchards GC) and Ben Conroy (New Haven CC) in a playoff at 2-under the Shuttle Meadow CC duo parred the first hole to win the title. In the playoff, both teams missed the green with their approach shots turning the first extra hole into a chipping match.

Final Results

15-year-old Andrew Dunn hit a wonderful chip leaving 4 feet for par while Jay Conroy left 15 feet. Ben Conroy, a Connecticut Amateur and Mid-Amateur winner putted first and lipped out the par putt. With a chance to secure the championship Matt Dunn converted the par putt and embraced his son in celebration.

“This was so much fun,” Matt Dunn said. “The last time I played in this tournament was with my Dad.”

The Dunns began the shotgun style tournament on the par-4 15h hole and jump started their round with two consecutive birdies. They got as low as 3-under with a birdie on the par-5 second before returning to 2-under with their final birdie of the day on the par-5 12th.

For the Conroys their round began on No. 12 and they got off to a slow start with bogeys on two of their first five holes. However, a birdie on the par-3 17th began to turn their day around. Consecutive birdies followed on Nos. 1 and 2 to return the duo to level-par. A bogey on No. 3 was their final misstep of the day as they played the final eight holes in 2-under with birdies falling on Nos. 7 and 10.

Bill and Billy Buscetto (Great Neck CC) tied for third place with Brian and Preston Shortell (Watertown GC) at 1-under while Parent Child winners Paul and Steven Ferraro (Quinnatissett CC); Steve and Clark Robinson (Wethersfield CC) shared fifth at even-par.
