Westport, Connecticut (August 15, 2022) – On a fantastic day at the Longshore Golf Course, Frank Geiger beat out Richard Stevens in a playoff to win the 26th Super Senior Championship.
After 18-holes of play, both Geiger and Stevens shot a 1-under 68 which brought them to a playoff for the championship. Geiger was able to capture the win after two playoff holes going par-par.
Beginning the shotgun style tournament on the second hole Geiger sunk a long par putt on the third hole to settle into the round. He then went on to birdie the eighth and ninth holes to take an early lead in the championship.
Geiger highlighted his long birdie putt on the par-3 11th hole as being a key shot that helped him to the victory. He also attributed solid and consistent ball striking throughout the round to his success. His only blemish on the round was a double-bogey on the 18th hole.
Stevens, a two-time Connecticut Senior Amateur winner, would capture second place after coming up short on the final playoff hole but he turned in a great round nonetheless. Stevens would record five birdies on the day as he went on to shoot a 1-under 68.
Third place honors were shared by Bill Hermanson and Terry Ruzzo as they both played solidly to post an even-par 69. Hermanson rolled in three birdies and Ruzzo had two birdies on the day. The top five was rounded out by four players at 2-over 71 including Rick Lawrence, Dave Szewczul, Tim Dailey, and Gary Mattesen.

The CSGA functions as an extension of the USGA and provides stewardship for amateur golf in Connecticut. Founded in 1899, it is the country’s oldest state golf association and conducts over 60 Championships, Qualifiers, and One Day Tournaments throughout the year.
