Halperts Capture 88th Father & Son Championship

Champions Michael and Alex Halpert

Stratford, Connecticut (August 12, 2024) – Michael and Alex Halpert (Highfield Club) clinched the 88th Father & Son Championship held at Mill River Country Club, finishing with an impressive 5-under 66 score.

The Halperts got their day off to a strong start as they birdied the first two holes. “We had six birdies, a lot of good up and downs. Missed a few putts, but we also made a good amount of putts as well,” Alex said.

The Halperts additionally birdied the par-4 holes Nos. 5, 9, 10, & 14, with only one bogey on the par-4 No. 11. “I think we left a couple out there, but we also had a chance to blow up on some holes we didn’t, so pretty steady round,” Mike explained.

Final Results

For Mike, winning alongside his son was a memorable experience. “Especially a CSGA event, it’s awesome,” Mike said. His son Alex added, “It feels good to win with my dad, I mean winning anything is pretty good.”

The runner-ups were Jeff and Jack Wise (TPC River Highlands) who carded 4-under 67s for second place. “We had a great time. We ham and egged it pretty well. Jack made a lot of putts when we needed him,” Jeff said. “This event is our favorite event of the year. We love it. It’s the best time that we grew up doing. Every year we put this on the calendar.” The Wises captured an impressive seven birdies on Nos. 1, 2, 5, 10, 13, 14, & 16. “Four bogeys. That’s what did us in,” recalled Jeff.

Third place was secured by John (Aspetuck Valley CC) and Jonathan Bushka (Great River GC) with 3-under 68. Last year’s champions John and Bradley Sawka (Ellington Ridge CC) shared fourth place along with two other teams at 2-under.

Additionally, Rob Linehan (EClub of Connecticut) made an impressive hole-in-one on the par-3 17th during his round. He explained that the hole was 155 yards long, and he used his 8-iron to ace the shot.
