Simsbury, Connecticut (August 28, 2024) – On a picture-perfect late August day multiple players earned titles at the Hop Meadow Country Club One Day Tournament sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop.
In the Tettelbach Gross Division, Rammi Hazzaa and Alexander Gu both fired 1 under 71s to share the top spot.
Hazzaa saved his best golf for late in the day. 1 over after 15 holes Hazzaa caught fire down the stretch birdieing the last three holes to surge up the leaderboard.
Gu, a member of the Dartmouth golf team, had an up-and-down round. On the front side, Gu birdied three times and bogeyed just once as he made the turn in 2 under 34. However, on the back nine Gu bogeyed three times in a four-hole stretch from Nos. 12-15 to fall back to 1 over before birdieing the two closing par-5s to return to red figures.
The top five was rounded out by Jason Morrow (E) in third, Matthew Spindler-Virgin (+1) was fourth, and Chris Szymonik (+3) finished fifth.
In the Siderowf Gross Division, Dean Godek and Mark Vasington tied for first place with even-par 72 showings.
Godek played his way to the top of the leaderboard with two birdies and two bogeys. His birdies came on Nos. 2 and 18.
Vasington carded four birdies against four bogeys on his way to his second One Day victory of the season. 2 over through 16 holes, Vasington birdied the last two holes to earn his share of the title.
One shot back in a tie for third at 1 over were Tim Tenero and Bill Hermanson with Robert Bartha and Tom Brett sharing fifth at 2 over.
Bill Hermanson, a winner the day before at the 28th Super Senior Championship had the shot of the day. On the 186-yard par-3 ninth Hermanson jarred his 6 iron for his fifth career ace and second in competition.
Leading the way in the Tettelbach Net Division was Morrow (-5) followed by Spindler-Virgin (-3) in second, Hazzaa and Szymonik shared third at 2 under, and Dan Cooksey (-1) was fifth.
In the Siderowf Net Division, Frank Flood and Tenero finished 4 under to share the title. Two shots further back in a tie for third at 2 under were Rob Nicholas, John Annear, and Mark Brooks.
