Simsbury, Connecticut (August 3, 2022) – Richard Shildneck and Mark Powers went out early at the 41st Connecticut Senior Four-Ball at Simsbury Farms Golf Course and they posted a number nobody could top.
Teeing off at 7:40 a.m. in the second group of the day they birdied the first hole and never looked back on their way to shooting a bogey-free 6-under 66 that was good enough for a one-stroke victory over three other teams.
“We started off with a birdie right off the bat and we kept going,” said Mark Powers who rolled in the birdie on the opening par-4.
The birdie on the first hole jump-started a four birdie in seven hole stretch to begin their round with both players contributing equally. Shildneck converted birdie tries on Nos. 4 and 5 while Powers jarred his second of the day on the seventh.
Turning in 4-under 32 the stellar golf continued with Shildneck pouring in two more birdies on the 13th and 14th holes.
“We were both in the holes [all day long] which was nice,” said Richard Shildneck. “Both of us being in holes was important. It was a fun round of golf.”
A trio of teams – Daniel Ahern/Allen Germano, Mark Durand/Ken Parisi, and Mark Vassalotti/Mark Vasington – tied for second at 5-under. One shot further back in a tie for fifth were 12 teams at 4-under.
