Quarterfinals Set at 83rd Connecticut Junior Amateur

Watertown, Connecticut (July 9, 2024) – After a day full of surprises eight players remain at the 83rd Connecticut Junior Amateur hosted by Watertown Golf Club.

In the first match of the day 32-seed Maximillian Moschini (EClub of Connecticut) knocked off top-seed and Connecticut Amateur runner-up Jack Chung (Greenwich CC) 2 up setting the tone for the day.

Moschini then followed up his Round of 32 victory with a 1-up triumph in the Round of 16 over CJ Giuliano (Clinton CC).

Moschini will now square off against North Chery (Great River GC). Chery began his day with a dominant 9&8 win over Conner Rabbit (EClub of Connecticut) before rallying from 2 down after 12 h0les to best Cameron St. Pierre (Newtown CC) 1 up.

Quarterfinal number two will see Luke Kowalchik and Harrison Browne face off.

Kowalchik opened his day with a 4&3 victory over Nick Flynn (Suffield CC) however it was his Round of 16 victory that made headlines. Facing Connecticut Amateur winner Austin Perkins (Hartford GC), Kowalchik trailed 1 down after six holes before battling back to tie the match by the turn. Once the match was tied Kowalchik took control winning No. 11 with a birdie, No. 12 with an eagle, and No. 14 with a par to take a 3-up lead that he would never relinquish.

Perkins did pull within 1 down with victories on Nos. 15 and 16 but Kowalchik was able to close the match out 2&1.

Harrison Browne (Great River GC) advanced with two impressive wins. First, he bested Tyson Asadourian (Timberlin GC) 6&5 and then James Sagnella (Lyman Orchards GC) 3&2.

In the third quarterfinal match, Will Lord (Suffield CC) will take on Luke Stennett (Tallwood CC).

Lord, the 31-seed, knocked off two-seed Thomas Bonomo (The Stanwich Club) 2&1 in the Round of 32 before handling Hudson Hagmann (The Connecticut GC) 5&4 in the Round of 16.

Luke Stennett started his day with a strong 5&4 win over Wyatt Lupo (Greenwich CC) before knocking off defending champion Will Gregware (Farmington Woods GC) in a heavy-weight Round of 16 battle.

Stennett, the 2023 New England Junior Amateur winner, was 2 down after 11 holes only to storm back earning a 2&1 victory. After losing No. 11 to fall 2 down, Stennett won Nos. 12, 13, 14, and 16 to flip the match.

The final quarterfinal match will pitch Scott Petrosky (Timberlin GC) and Zachary Munno (The Stanwich Club) against each other.

Petrosky opened his day with a 2&1 win against William Giaquinto (New Haven CC) and then held on for a 1-up victory over Jason Vintiadis (Round Hill Club) in the Round of 16.

Zachary Munno moved on with two impressive wins. His first victory was a 4&3 win over Wilson Ouimet (USGA/CSGA GC) while his second victory was an even more impressive 6&5 triumph against Kyle DeGroff (Shuttle Meadow CC).

The 83rd Connecticut Junior Amateur will continue on Wednesday morning with the quarterfinals followed by the semifinals in the afternoon all setting the stage for the 18-hole championship match on Thursday morning.
