(February 11, 2025) – This year for the first time since 2003 the Connecticut Open presented by GSB will return to Black Hall Club. However, before we look ahead to this year’s Connecticut Open scheduled to be played from July 28-30 we will flash back to 2003.

In 2003, Steve Sokol avenged a disappointing 2001 defeat by besting four-time Connecticut Open winner Kyle Gallo by two shots. Sokol, the current assistant golf coach at Sacred Heart, took control of the championship with a 1 under 70 in the second round. Sokol then held on in the final round despite a valiant charge from Gallo, who began the round seven shots off the pace.

“Yeah, it’s a little redemption. It feels good (to win the Connecticut Open),” said Sokol the 2001 NCAA Division II individual champion at Florida Southern. “This is something I very much wanted to win. Anybody from Connecticut does. It was nice.”
