Norwich, Connecticut (August 19, 2021) – With a stellar round of 5-under 66 the duo of David Zeid and Dick Stevens captured the 40th Senior Four-Ball hosted by Norwich Golf Course. The tandem finished one shot ahead of two teams tied for second at 4-under.
Zeid (Great River GC) rolled in the team’s first birdie of the day on the par-4 2nd hole with Stevens (CSGA) following suit a few holes later with a birdie on the par-5 5th. Unable to capitalize on additional birdie tries throughout the remainder of the front nine Zeid and Stevens made the turn in 2-under 34.
Following pars on Nos. 10 and 11 and with holes running out to make a move Stevens, a two-time Connecticut Senior Amateur champion, rolled in a 20-footer for eagle on the par-5 12th to vault them to 4-under.
Zeid, a winner for the first time in a CSGA event, punctuated their round providing what proved to be the winning birdie on the par-4 17th. “I’ve come close before and I was very pleased to finally win one,” said Zeid. “It is also really great to win an event with such a strong field.”
Second place was shared by the Mohegan Sun GC team of James Lawler and Dave Jones along with Bill Marsh (Indian Hill CC) and Dennis Bongiovanni (Keney GC). Six teams tied for fourth at 3-under. The group included Tom Brett (Rockledge CC)/Peter Davison (Rockledge CC), Jeffrey Dolin (Manchester CC)/Derek Waddington (EClub of Connecticut), Frank Geiger (Sterling Farms Men’s GC)/Joe Romanelli (H. Smith Richardson GC), Michael Minkos (Tallwood CC)/David Laravee (Ludlow CC), Rick Nappi (Timberlin GC)/James Kulacz (Timberlin GC), and Randy Rizy (Timberlin GC)/Mike Sirois (Stanley GC).
