Hartford, Connecticut (August 4, 2022) – Jason Longo fired a 3-under 67 at Keney Park Golf Course to earn medalist honors at 41st U.S. Mid-Amateur Qualifying. The 2021 U.S. Mid-Amateur is scheduled for September 10-15 at Erin Hills Golf Course in Wisconsin.
A member at Brooklawn Country Club, Longo carded six birdies and three bogeys throughout his round. However, it was his back-to-back birdies on Nos. 14 and 15 that created the cushion he needed to earn a spot in next month’s U.S. Mid-Amateur.
Harvin Groft, who placed ninth at the New Hampshire Amateur this year, finished in second place and played nearly flawless golf with his only bogey coming on the final hole. Three birdies throughout the course of the prior 17 holes were enough for him to punch his ticket.
Seth Jainchill captured the final spot up for grabs in a 6-for-1 playoff. Beginning on the back nine Jainchill got off to an electric start firing a bogey-free 4-under 31 highlighted by an eagle on the par-5 14th. Sitting in a good position at the turn Jainchill had to hang on throughout his second nine to earn his spot in the playoff. Following a pair of pars to start the side Jainchill bogeyed three times and double-bogeyed once throughout the final seven holes but he was able to limit the damage with a pair of birdies.
Ben Day finished as the first alternate while Tyler Cooke took the second alternate position.
