Darien, Connecticut (June 13, 2023) – Playing in his first CSGA event since 2021 Chris Fosdick picked up right where he left off. Following a solid opening round even-par 71 Fosdick turned in a 2-under 69 in the second round of stroke play qualifying to earn R.M. Grant Medalist honors at the 121st Connecticut Amateur. With his 36-hole 2-under tally Fosdick was the only player to finish stroke play qualifying under-par.
Fosdick, the 2020 and 2021 champion, got off to a quick start birdieing the par-4 first at the Country Club of Darien with a 16-foot putt and then he followed that up with a birdie from eight feet on the par-3 second.

“The course was a little more scorable today,” said Fosdick a rising senior on the Virginia golf team. “The greens were much softer and a little slower but I think they were very true. I rolled the putter well and made some more putts today.”
Following his fast start Fosdick (Wallingford CC) continued his strong play with three more birdies falling on Nos. 8, 12, and 13 thanks to approach shots that all landed inside of 10 feet of the pin. Overall Fosdick rolled in five birdies and bogeyed three times and at the end of the day he had put himself in a familiar position.
“I feel good,” Fosdick stated after his round. “I am feeling pretty comfortable. I have been in this position before and I am excited and I am ready to face whoever I face.”
Second place was shared by AJ Ouimet (CC of Waterbury) and two-time champion Rick Dowling (Golf Performance Center) at 1-over while first round leader Connor Goode (Glastonbury Hills CC) and Jack Woods (Ridgewood CC) tied for fourth at 3-over.
A 5-for-4 playoff determined the final spots in the bracket with 14-year-old Robby Rosati (Great River GC), Anthony Hrenko (Indian Hill CC), Jake Bennett (Madison CC), and Matt Fuller (Great Neck CC) all advancing. For Fuller, this was the third consecutive year that he survived a playoff to reach match play.
The 121st Connecticut Amateur will resume on Wednesday morning with the Round of 32 followed by the Round of 16 in the afternoon. On Thursday the quarterfinals and semifinals will be contested before the 36-hole championship match is played on Friday.
