Southbury, Connecticut (October 18, 2021) – Heading into 2021 St. Joseph’s had never won a state title in golf. Now they have won two in one year. With the Division I and Division II Boy’s Championship moved to the fall St. Joseph’s backed up their June Division III title with a victory in the Division II Championship on a cloudy and blustery day at Silo Point Country Club.
With all five players in their lineup returning from their winning team in the spring the Cadets put together a 29-over day to finish comfortably in front of second-place Berlin (+38). Masuk (+43) took third, in fourth it was Pomperaug (+44) while Northwest Catholic (+51) was fifth.
Pacing St. Joseph’s on Monday was Robbie Sluga with a 3-over 75, one of two Cadets to post sub-80 rounds.
In the Individual race Housatonic’s Zim McAuliffe fought his way to a one-shot victory over Sluga. McAuliffe fired a 2-over 74 and capped his round with a clutch birdie on his final hole, the par-4 9th.
Daniel Casanta (Pomperaug) was third at 5-over, Terrance Dornfried (Berlin) was 6-over in fourth while Andrew Flynn (St. Joseph’s) took fifth at 7-over.
