Farmington, Connecticut (October 1, 2024) – On a gorgeous first day of October at the Country Club of Farmington the teams of Ben Cooley/Jake Shuman and Will/Sam Bernstein qualified for the 10th U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship. The 2024 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball Championship is set to be played next year from May 25-29 at the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Ben Cooley and Jake Shulman led the way firing a 9 under 62 to earn medalist honors. The duo began their day in fine form with Cooley, a former University of Pennsylvania golfer, birdieing the short par-4 opening hole. Shuman then quickly followed suit adding a birdie on the ensuing hole, the difficult uphill par-3 2nd.
Already 2 under the tandem pushed their tally to 5 under by the turn thanks to a birdie by Shuman, a former Duke star, on the par-5 9th. Shuman, who played in the 2020 Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour, started off the back nine with a birdie on the par-5 10th before Cooley handled the workload down the stretch converting birdies on Nos. 12, 15, and 17.
Sam and Will Bernstein earned their spot in the field with an 8 under 63 and then outlasted Addison Owens and Jake Marriott in a playoff. The brothers and former Yale golfers both contributed to their tally with Will converting five birdies and Sam three.
Owens and Marriott ended up earning the first alternate spot while Tim Bickford and Christopher Sica finished 6 under to earn the second alternate spot.
