(January 9, 2025) – With the spring season set to begin shortly we take a look back at some of the notable team and individual performances around Connecticut college golf.
Teams
Hartford Men: The Hawks had a strong fall season recording three top-4 finishes highlighted by second place finishes at the Duke Nelson Invitational and the Gillette Ridge Invitational.
New Haven Women: Impressive play by the Chargers led to a pair of runner-up showings first at the Hartford Hawk Invitational and later at the Northeast-10 Conference Championship.
Quinnipiac: In the fall the Bobcats tallied a T3 finish to go along with a pair of second place showings. Their second place finishes came at the Red Bandana Invitational and the Lady Blue Hen Invitational.
Sacred Heart Men: The fall for the Pioneers was highlighted by a win at the Matthews Auto Collegiate Golf Invitational. Additionally, Sacred Heart earned second and third place finishes.
Trinity Men: It was a banner fall for the Bantams as they registered two wins in four events. Their victories came at The Northeast Elite Tournament and at the Sap Bucket Challenge.
UConn: It was a good fall for the Huskies as they placed second at their own UConn Invitational and then T3 at the Xavier Invitational.
Individuals
Aoife Devaney (Coastal Carolina): As a freshman Devaney, the 2023 Hartford Women’s Open champion, has made an immediate impact. So far her best finish was T3 at the Tot Hill Farm Invitational.
Charlie Dolan (McDaniel College): The two-time CSGA P.J. Boatwright intern has had a strong start to his junior season recording one top-five finish and three top-10 finishes.
Matt Doyle (Elon): The 2020 Connecticut Junior Amateur winner had his best finish of the fall at the Elon Phoenix Invitational where he placed fifth.
Joe Ensign (Post): A senior from Rocky Hill, Ensign has had a spectacular start to his year. In five events this year he has a win at the Post Eagles Invitational to go along with a second place finish, two third place showings, and a seventh place finish.
Connor Goode (UConn): After a strong summer in CSGA events Goode picked up right where he left in the fall. The junior finished T6 at the UConn Invitational and fourth at the Xavier Invitational.
Will Gregware (Maryland): The 2023 Connecticut Junior Amateur winner had a strong start to his collegiate career. Gregware played in three events highlighted by a T5 showing at the Naval Academy Intercollegiate. Gregware posted a 71.89 scoring average with all nine of his scores counting towards the team tally.
Ben James (Virginia): Ranked third in the World Amateur Golf Rankings, James to nobody’s surprise has had a strong start to his junior year. So far James has had two top-10 finishes including a T3 showing at the Inverness Intercollegiate and a win at the Valero Texas Collegiate. His victory at the Valero Texas Collegiate earned James a sponsorship exemption into the 2025 Valero Texas Open in April.
Mia Holbrook (Wesleyan): The Wesleyan sophomore finished fifth at the George Phinney Classic.
Will Lodge (Yale): The junior had an impressive first half to his season winning the SHU Fall Classic and finishing fourth at the Glen Arbor Invite.
Laniah Moffett (Howard): Moffett recently completed an impressive junior career that included among numerous accolades a 2022 Borck Junior title and an appearance in the 2024 First Tee National Championship. Therefore it came as no surprise when Moffett picked up right where she left off in college. In three events during the fall season, Moffett picked up two top-seven finishes. Her best showing was T5 at the Eastside Golf Invitational.
Jackson Roman (Loyola Maryland): The 2024 Connecticut Open champion has picked up three top-1o finishes so far this season. His best finish was fifth at the Monterrey Collegiate Classic.
Mike Rothberg (Sacred Heart): The junior has three top-six finishes highlighted by a second place showing at the Ryan Lee Intercollegiate.
Luke Stennett (URI): The 2024 Connecticut Junior Amateur and Borck Junior champion played in four events for the Rams this fall and never finished worse than T10. Stennett’s best fall finish came at the Nassau Intercollegiate where he tied for fourth.
