(October 7, 2026) – The 92nd Tri-State Matches are set for Shuttle Meadow Country Club on October 13-14, as the best mid-amateur and senior amateur golfers from Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island square off in one of New England amateur golf’s longest-running team competitions.
The Tri-State Matches have been a fixture on the regional golf calendar since 1928, with Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island competing for state pride and bragging rights. Each team features 16 players—10 mid-amateurs and six seniors—with the competition beginning Tuesday with four-ball and foursomes matches before concluding Wednesday with singles.
For Team Connecticut, this year’s matches offer an opportunity to defend home turf on a course that is particularly well suited for match play.
A Perfect Setting for Match Play
Shuttle Meadow Country Club has long been one of the CSGA’s most valued hosts, and the 2026 Tri-State Matches represent another chapter in the club’s extensive history of hosting Connecticut’s biggest events.
The Kensington club has previously hosted the Connecticut Open, Connecticut Amateur and Connecticut Mid-Amateur, among numerous other CSGA championships and events. Most recently, Shuttle Meadow hosted the Connecticut Amateur in 2025, its eighth time hosting the championship.
Designed by Willie Park Jr., the par-71 layout provides the type of strategic challenge that makes for compelling match play. The course rewards thoughtful positioning and shot-making, and offers plenty of opportunities for matches to swing in the deciding holes. For the CSGA, bringing the Tri-State Matches to Shuttle Meadow is another opportunity to showcase one of Connecticut’s finest courses to some of the best amateur golfers in New England.
A Veteran Team with Six Newcomers
While Team Connecticut will feature six rookies in this year’s competition, the group is anything but inexperienced.
The roster is filled with players who have competed and won at the highest levels of amateur golf throughout Connecticut and the region, including 8 players from last year’s team and 2 who have played on teams in the past.
That blend of newcomers and veterans has become a hallmark of the Tri-State Matches and for all of these players, representing Connecticut is about more than individual accomplishments—it is about coming together as a team, embracing the opportunity to compete alongside some of the state’s best players and carrying Connecticut’s name into battle against its New England neighbors.
Connecticut enters the 92nd playing with 41 Tri-State victories, the most in the history of the competition. Massachusetts has 40 victories, while Rhode Island has won 12 times. Connecticut’s most recent title came in 2023, when Team CT rallied on the final day to defeat Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Everin Enters His 10th Tri-State Matches at the Helm
Leading Team Connecticut once again will be Connecticut Golf Hall of Famer Roger Everin, who enters his 10th season as captain.
Few people have been more influential in Connecticut amateur golf over the past decade than Everin. A former Connecticut Amateur champion who enjoyed an accomplished playing career, Everin has embraced his role as captain with the same competitive spirit that defined his time as a player. Since taking over the Tri-State team, Everin has led Connecticut to two Tri-State titles, including the dramatic comeback victory in 2023.
For Everin, captaining the team has become about more than simply winning. “I love going to CSGA events throughout the year and building relationships with the players, with a keen eye on recruiting players for Team Connecticut. The Tri-State Matches are a culmination of great seasons for all of these players, and it’s really special for me to be part of that experience and have the opportunity to serve as their captain.”
That experience will be especially valuable with six players making their Tri-State debuts this year. Everin knows what it takes to prepare players for the unique pressures of team match play—and how quickly a single match can change the complexion of an entire competition.
Team Connecticut stalwart Rick Dowling, a three-time Amateur and four-time Mid-Amateur Champion and constant presence on Everin’s Challenge Cup and Tri-State teams, had this to say about his Captain and the team’s quest for another title:
“Ask any of the other captains, and they’ll tell you: the Tri-State Matches are Roger’s lifeblood. They love to rib him about it, and the players too. But that passion is real, and it’s year-round. Roger shows up to every event on the schedule, checking in with guys, talking up the team, and keeping an eye on who’s playing well. Only a select few get to wear Connecticut colors in these matches, and Roger makes sure you feel how special that is. Hosting this year raises it another notch. There’s nothing like playing for your state, in your state, for a captain who wants it this badly.”
The matches begin on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m.
