Wethersfield, Connecticut (October 12, 2026) – Two inches of rain fell overnight, but by the time 10 a.m. rolled around, the sun was shining, and with temperatures nearing 70 degrees by midday, the 25th Al Acker One Day Championship presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop commenced.
In the Tettelbach Gross Division, just one player, Andrew Byron, finished under par, firing a 1-under 70 to earn a three-shot victory over five others at 2-over. Beginning the shotgun start tournament on the par-4 first, Byron was 1-over through three holes before catching fire and playing Nos. 4-14 in 4-under. His birdies dropped on Nos. 4, 5, 9, and 12.
Describing his run of birdies, Byron said, “On the par-3 fifth I put it to two feet from 210 yards. Then I really started to think something was happening when on the 230-yard par-3 ninth I drained a 20-foot putt for birdie.”
Byron did slip up down the stretch, with a double-bogey on No. 15, but his work in the middle of the round was enough to carry the day.
“It means a lot,” Byron said of his first career CSGA win. “I grinded hard this year. I’ve had some success outside of CSGA events, so to finally play a round during a tournament and see it come together was a really great feeling.
The second place group at 2-over included Raymond Greco, Chris Szymonik, Kyle Bilodeau, Kevin Klepacki, and Andrew Beauton.
In the Siderowf Gross Division, Dean Godek was the only player to post an under-par tally, signing for a 1-under 70. Beginning on No. 1, Godek played a flawless round of golf with a birdie mixed in thanks to a downhiller from 20 feet dropping on the par-3 17th.
“I think by winning the (Al Acker One Day Championship and Siderowf Gross Player of the Year), the key is you have to be consistent,” Dean Godek said. “I think my worst finish was tied for fifth throughout the season. So I think that kind of kept me in it (all year long).”
Two shots back in second place was Dave Szewczul at 1-over, Bill Hermanson (+2) took third, while Brian Geary, Jim Patterson, Eric Ashworth, James Lawler, James Zaniewski, John Svetz, and Al Alminas shared fifth at 3-over.
Leading the way in the Tettelbach Net Division was Byron (-3), followed by Szymonik, Nick Donovan, and Gavin Dunne in a tie for second at 1-under. Kevin Klepacki was fifth at level par.
Meanwhile, in the Siderowf Net Division, Tom DeRienzo and Svetz shared the top spot at 2-under. Godek and Szewczul were third at 1-under. Robert Costanzo was fifth with an even-par tally.
The play at Wethersfield CC also determined the Chris Cote’s One Day Player of the Year winners.
