(April 15, 2025) – The 2025 Connecticut State Golf Association season begins on Monday, April 21 at Stonington Country Club with the first event of the One Day Tournament Series sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop.
“Having the chance to host the first CSGA tournament of the year for the fourth consecutive season is a treat but also a challenge,” said first year head professional Shane Marchenkoff. “We all hope the course plays as good as it can for mid-April but it gives us great feedback from the players as to how the course is playing. This tournament has been comfortable for us and we hope to continue this for years to come.”
Designed by Al Zikorus the first nine holes of the course were opened in August of 1992 with the final nine holes opening a little less than two years later in the spring of 1994.
The par-72 track will play at roughly 6,500 yards for the Tettlebach Division and just over 6,100 yards for the Siderowf Division. Always a challenging course, Stonington CC features undulating greens and some wooded areas on the back nine that require shot shaping.
However, it is those greens that Marchenkoff highlights as the biggest challenge players will face. “The front nine doesn’t have a lot of undulation but has very subtle breaks. You will walk off missing a short putt and think to yourself, ‘there is no way it breaks that way.’ The back nine has more undulation, but the breaks are truer. It will keep you guessing every time you play.”
2025 One Day Tournament Series Schedule
Monday’s season opening event is the start of a seven-month One Day Series Tournament schedule that weaves throughout the state of Connecticut and concludes on October 6 with the Al Acker One Day Championship at Wethersfield Country Club.
Once again, the One Day Series sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop will offer four divisions. Players 55 and under will compete in the Tettelbach Open Division and Tettlebach Net Division while players 55 and over will play in the Siderowf Gross Division and the Siderowf Net Division.
Last year Chris Cote’s Golf Shop Player of the Year honors were earned by Chris Flowers (Tettlebach Open Division), Dave Jones (Siderowf Gross Division), Ronald Soccoli (Tettlebach Net Division), and Nick Snyder (Siderowf Net Division).
