“I just gave myself good yardages off the tee,” said Andrew Antonelli, who played in the 2025 U.S. Junior Amateur. “I hit mostly hybrids off the tee, and I had a perfect number (almost) every time and made a couple putts.”

After three pars to begin his round, Antonelli moved into the red with birdies on Nos. 4 and 5. His first birdie on the par-3 fourth was a 20-footer.

2-under at the turn, Antonelli recorded two more birdies on Nos. 10 and 11 to reach 4-under. He dropped his one shot of the day with a bogey on No. 12 before bouncing back with his fifth and final birdie of the round on No. 16.

Rounding out the top-five were Tiger Zhang (USGA/CSGA GC) and defending champion Will Lord (Suffield CC) in a tie for second at 1-under, while in a tie for fourth it was Joshua Kim (eClub of Connecticut) and Avery Phillips (Chippanee CC) at 1-over.

Up next in the Boys’ Division is the Round of 16, which is set to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The quarterfinals will follow in the afternoon before the semifinals and finals are played on Wednesday.

In the Girls’ Division, Eve Krinsky (eClub of Connecticut) carded a 3-over 75 to earn the top spot by four shots over Lila Reiling (CC of Fairfield), who finished second at 7-over.

“I was really smart off the tee,” Eve Krinsky said of the key to her day one success. “I refrained from being aggressive and hit smart shots which kept me out of trouble.”

Krinsky began her day on No. 10 and got off to a slow start with bogeys on Nos. 12 and 14 before she found her first birdie of the day, a two-putt from 15 feet, on the par-5 15th to move to 1-over.

A bogey on the 18th followed before Krinsky birdied the par-4 1st thanks to an approach shot that was stuffed to four feet. That birdie once again returned her to 1-over. From there, Krinsky, an Amherst commit, played steady 2-over golf to the house.

Krinsky will now try to carry her momentum into the beginning of match play on Tuesday. “I think I am going to keep the same strategy off the tee. I know match play should cater to more aggressive play, but I really think I saved big numbers by picking smart clubs and lines off the tee. I will try to channel that tomorrow as well.”

Sadie Lee (Tashua Knolls GC) finished third at 8-over, Ava Oh (eClub of Connecticut) took fourth at 4-over, while in fifth it was Sakura Downing (eClub of Connecticut) at 10-over.

Up next in the Girls’ Division is the quarterfinals, which are set to begin Tuesday at noon. The semifinals and finals are scheduled for Wednesday.
