Bigger and Better, One Day Series Set to Begin

On Monday, April 15th, the 2013 CSGA Championship season will get under way when the Tradition Golf Club at Oak Lane hosts the first One Day Tournament of the Year. The 2013 One Day Tournament Series has expanded to include a total of eleven events, plus a year-end Championship. Several of the top public and private facilities in Connecticut are featured on the schedule.

For the first time since 1952, the Country Club of Waterbury (annual site of the Russell C. Palmer Cup) will host a One Day Tournament (April 29th). Built in 1899 and designed by renowned architect Donald Ross, the CC of Waterbury has hosted 10 Connecticut Amateur Championships and the 2005 Connecticut Open Championship. Also on the slate on August 20th is Connecticut National Golf Club (Site of 2012 US Amateur Qualifying, and the 2013 New England Junior Championship). Connecticut National recently underwent extensive renovations to transform it into a championship layout.

The CSGA One Day Tournament Series allow golfers of all ages and abilities to participate in CSGA tournaments in a competitive and fun atmosphere. These events are open to any golfer who holds an active USGA handicap from a CSGA member club. The entry fee of $70 for each event includes all golf fees, cart fees and prizes. New for 2013: One Day Player of the Year Points Race sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop

The Connecticut State Golf Association is also pleased to announce a new partnership with Chris Cote’s Golf Shop in Portland, Connecticut. For the first time, the One Day Tournament Series will include a separate “Player of the Year Points Race” for both Regular and Senior Divisions, Gross and Net. Players will accumulate points based on their finishes in One Day Tournaments throughout the season. A total of $3,000 in merchandise certificates to Chris Cote’s Golf Shop will be awarded to the One Day Player of the Year and Runner Up in each division.

The Player of the Year Points Race promises to add a new element of excitement to the series. “We expect this will be a fun and exciting year for golfers playing in our One Day Tournaments,” said Mike Moraghan, CSGA Executive Director. “We’re really happy to be playing so many outstanding golf courses, and to be partnering with Chris Cote’s Golf Shop for the 2013 season. The points race rankings will likely change after each event, and players will be able to see where they stand throughout the season. The players who play the most and play the best will have a really nice payoff at the end of the season.”
