Westport, Connecticut (August 26, 2024) – With an even-par 69 at the 28th Super Senior Championship Bill Hermanson earned a one-shot victory over Mark Vasington (+1).
“Any time you are lucky enough to win it is fun,” said Hermanson who captured his first Super Senior Championship in just his third attempt. “That is what we all play for. Winning never gets old.”
Beginning his day on the par-4 fifth hole at Longshore Golf Course, Hermanson (Black Hall Club) got off to a slow start, and after the first 11 holes of his round, he was 3 over. However, Hermanson began to turn his day around on the 388-yard par-4 16th.
With 173 yards into the wind remaining for his second shot, the two-time reigning Super Senior Player of the Year selected 6 iron and flushed his approach shot stuffing it to two feet. Moments later Hermanson brushed in the short birdie try and officially flipped the momentum.
“I was hitting the ball well and I kept hitting it close and giving myself opportunities,” Hermanson said.
Those opportunities resulted in additional birdies from inside of eight feet on the par-4 first and par-3 second moving Hermanson back to even-par. Once back to level par Hermanson eased his way into the clubhouse with pars on the final two holes to seal yet another CSGA victory.
Mark Vasington (Wampanoag CC) finished in second place at 1 over, John Herbert (Rockledge CC) was 2 over in third while Bruce Kraczkowsky (Rockledge CC) and Arthur Haddad (Richter Park GC) shared fourth at 3 over.
