Christopher Austin Joins CSGA as P.J. Boatwright Intern

The Connecticut State Golf Association has named Christopher Austin of Cheshire, Connecticut as their USGA P.J. Boatwright Intern for 2013. In this position Austin will assist with a wide range of CSGA operations, both in the office and at golf courses during tournaments.

Austin graduated from the University of Scranton in 2012 with a Bachelors of Science degree in Health Administration, and a minor in Business. As an undergraduate, he was employed at Delta Medix, a surgical center in Scranton. Upon graduation, he was employed at the Tradition Golf Club in Wallingford where he was involved in the management of outside events and club tournaments, as well as day-to-day operations of the course and pro shop.

“We were most impressed with Chris’ attitude and enthusiasm,”said CSGA Executive Director, Mike Moraghan. “For a guy who has just finished college, Chris has a variety of work experiences that are a good fit with the CSGA. We believe he will be a great addition to our staff.”

Austin grew up along the Tradition Golf Club in Wallingford, and has been an avid golfer for 17 years. He is also a dedicated ice hockey player who played on Scranton’s club team, and who continues to play in adult summer leagues.

“It’s exciting to be part of a great organization like the CSGA, and I am very grateful for this opportunity,” said Austin, “I know the Boatwright Internshipis prestigious and important, and I hope to learn as much as I can, and contribute to the CSGA in any way that I can.”

Named for the USGA’s former Executive Director of Rules and Competitions, the P.J. Boatwright internship is designed to provide individuals with valuable experience in golf administration, including such activities as course ratings, handicapping and tournament management. Since its inception in 1991, the Boatwright internship has helped launch golf administration careers for hundreds of individuals across the country.
