Warwick, Rhode Island (October 15, 2025) – Team Connecticut entered the 91st Tri-State Matches at Warwick Country Club looking for its second victory in three years. On a cold first day, Team Connecticut put itself in position as they entered the final day singles matches tied with Massachusetts at 17.5 points. Host Rhode Island, looking for its first win since 2001, was not far behind with 13 points.

However, on a final day where the annual Tri-State Matches were up for grabs, it was Massachusetts that was able to find enough points to earn its second straight title and 19th victory in the last 21 matches.

Rhode Island made some noise early as the scores slowly rolled in; however, as the day progressed, Massachusetts steadily accumulated points, eventually reaching its winning tally of 75.5 points. Connecticut made a late charge as well, earning 65 points to finish in second place while Rhode Island finished in third place with 51.5 points.

“We got off to a good start in the day one four-ball, but we weren’t able to maintain that momentum in the foursomes during the afternoon,” ninth-year team captain Roger Everin said. “We still had our chances in the singles matches but we came up a little short. Winning is never easy, but I’m so proud of how the players never gave up. Each of them will always cherish all the great memories of representing the CSGA and Connecticut in this special event.”

Team Connecticut was led in scoring by Rick Dowling (8 points), Anthony Guerrera (8 points), Ryan Burrill (7.5 points), Dave Jones (7.5 points), Rick Malafronte (7 points), Eric Bleile (6.5 points), and Bob Murphy, Jr. (6 points).

The 2026 Tri-State Matches will be played in Connecticut at a site to be determined. In 2023, the last time the Tri-State Matches were held in the Nutmeg state, Team Connecticut emerged victorious.
