Hamden, Connecticut (May 14, 2026) – For the ninth consecutive year, the Connecticut State Golf Association has captured the Julius Boros Challenge Cup.
On an overcast and at times rainy day at New Haven Country Club, the CSGA battled their way to a 42.5-29.5 victory over the Connecticut Section PGA in the 55th playing of the annual matches. The CSGA has won all but one of the matches during its nine-year winning streak by double digits. The lone exception came in 2022.
“It’s always a great battle with the Connecticut Section PGA guys. They’re a first-class group, and it’s an honor to share the course with them,” tenth-year captain Roger Everin expressed.
Continuing, the 2025 Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame inductee said, “I’m so proud of the players. I asked them not to think about winning, but to focus on how they got on the team. No pressure, just play one shot at a time. I always tell them that no matter the outcome, I can’t be disappointed by them.”
On a day when all eight CSGA teams earned at least 2 points, it was the tandem of Adam Friedman and Anthony Guerrera that led the way, earning the full allotment of 9 points. The second-highest scoring output came from a pair of rookies – Connor Goode and Mike Rothberg – with a 7.5 point tally.
The CSGA also received big days from Cody Paladino/Ben Day (6 points), Thomas Labbe/Justin Beal (5.5 points), Eric Bleile/Ben Conroy (5 points), and Dave Jones/Bob Murphy, Jr. (5 points).
Rounding out the scoring for the CSGA were Patrick McGuiness/Rick Malafronte (2.5 points) and Mike Kennedy/Rick Hayes (2 points).
Meanwhile, the Connecticut Section PGA, which leads the all-time series 34-21, was led by Chris Tallman and CJ Konkowski, who earned a team best 8.5 points, while Joe Cordani and Bob Mucha earned 6.5 points.
