Avon, Connecticut (August 25, 2025) – With one round in the books at the 38th Connecticut Mid-Amateur hosted by Golf Club of Avon the lead is shared by Guy Antonacci and Jack Snyder.
Playing on a comfortable late August day, Antonacci and Snyder both fired 4-under 67s, and they will carry a one-shot lead into the 36-hole final day.
Guy Antonacci (eClub of Connecticut) played his way to the top of the leaderboard thanks to a seven-birdie, three-bogey day.
Beginning his round on the par-4 first, Antonacci birdied his opening hole setting the tone for his day. Following the opening birdie, Antonacci did bogey No. 2 before bouncing back with a birdie from 20 feet on No. 3 and then converted another birdie on the par-3 sixth to move to 2-under.
Despite a second bogey on No. 9, Antonacci was in fine form as he birdied Nos. 10 and 11 to reach 3-under. Antonacci credited his iron play for his birdies during the middle portion of his round.
A brief slip-up occurred on No. 14 however of the bogey Antonacci said, “I made a great 10-footer for bogey which really helped me mentally.”
Following the dropped shot on No. 14, Antonacci chipped in for birdie on the par-5 16th and then one hole later he rolled in an eight-footer for his final birdie of the day.
“I stayed patient and didn’t try to force anything,” Antonacci said. “My putting is great right now and the greens were perfect so it’s a pretty good combo.”
Jack Snyder (Ellington Ridge CC) played the best stretch of golf in his career to stake his spot on the leaderboard.
After a bogey-par stretch to begin his day, Snyder went unconscious as he birdied seven straight holes from Nos. 3-9.
“My mindset during the run was the same I had all day,” said Snyder who had previously birdied six holes in a row at his home course Ellington Ridge Country Club. “I was really focused on the shot in front of me and executing that shot.”
Speaking on the run of birdies Snyder said the one on the par-4 eighth stood out, “On No. 8 I made my longest putt of the day from about 20-25 feet down the hill. My caddie Jack Buccigross, gave me great reads all day and that was another great one especially since it kept the streak going.”
One hole later, Snyder capped the streak off with a birdie on the par-5 ninth.
Snyder’s pace slowed on the back nine but he was still able to birdie three times, including one on the closing par-4 18th, to help offset three bogeys and a double-bogey.
On the day, Snyder remarkably recorded just three pars while carding 10 birdies, four bogeys, and a double bogey.

Snyder now turns his focus to the 36-hole final day, “My mindset going into tomorrow is more of the same. There are a lot of good players in the field and I need to keep hitting fairways and making birdies.”
One shot behind the leaders are Brian Kehoe (Brooklawn CC) and Tim Bickford (Timberlin GC) in a tie for third at 3-under, while six players share fifth at 1-under. The 1-under group includes former champion Ben Day (New Haven CC), Thomas McCarthy (eClub of Connecticut), Joe Ensign (TPC River Highlands), Christopher Sica (Wallingford CC), Joe Serrantino (Wallingford CC), and James Sheltman (Wallingford CC).
With the top-36 and ties advancing to the 36-hole final day, play will resume at 7:30 a.m. with groups going off both Nos. 1 and 10. Following the completion of the second round will be the final round in the afternoon. The final day will begin with 14 players within four shots of the lead.
