Longtime CSGA official Malcolm McLachlan has announced that he is retiring. McLachlan has served as Director of Rules and Competitions for the past fourteen years, a position he took over from Jack Barlow in 1999.
After competing as a player in many CSGA championships dating back to the 1960s, McLachlan’s service to the CSGA began in 1990 as a member of the CSGA Executive Committee. During his time on the Executive Committee he served as 2nd Vice President, Vice President for Club Relations, and Vice President for Competitions. McLachlan is an emeritus member of the CSGA Board of Directors, and a member of the USGA Rules Committee and Senior Amateur Championship Committee. During his career he has served as the Official in Charge at hundreds of CSGA tournaments and USGA qualifiers, and has been widely recognized as one of the foremost authorities on the Rules of Golf in the Northeast.
“I have loved my time with the CSGA, my fellow officials, our many volunteers and great players over the years,” said McLachlan. “There have been a lot of very early mornings and very long days, but the game and the people made it all worthwhile.”
McLachlan will continue to be a valuable resource for the CSGA, beginning in 2014 as “Special Advisor and Director of Rules Emeritus.”
“Malcolm is one of the best Rules men I’ve ever known,” said CSGA Executive Director, Mike Moraghan. “It is rare to find someone with his level of knowledge and experience, and his contributions to the CSGA have been monumental for many years.”
CSGA President John Marion said, “Malcolm has been a very good example to many aspiring Rules officials. He is always willing to share his knowledge of the Rules with those who share his passion, and he has helped develop many of the officials we now have with the CSGA.”
Director of Operations, Ryan Hoffman and Manager of Communications and Competitions, Brent Paladino are currently sharing McLachlan’s former duties. The CSGA expects to hire an additional staff member prior to the start of the 2014 season.
