Sherman, Connecticut (June 27, 2022) – With rounds of 1-over 73 Valeria Ramirez and Aoife Devaney earned spots in the 73rd U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship set to played from July 18-23 at The Club at Olde Stone in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
On an overcast day at The Club at River Oaks Ramirez, from Columbia, overcame a slow start to earn her spot in next month’s U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship. Committed to UCLA, Ramirez was 4-over after ten holes before coming up huge down the stretch with birdies on Nos. 11, 13, and 15.
Devaney, from Waterbury, got off to a strong start with a birdie on No. 2 and then rolled in her second birdie on the par-3 fourth to offset a bogey on the previous hole. Following her second birdie of the day Devaney struggled bogeying the next three holes along with another on the par-4 10th to drop to 3-over. Unfazed, Devaney responded playing the last eight holes in a bogey-free 2-under with birdies falling on Nos. 12 and 13.
2022 Connecticut Women’s Open champion Alexsandra Lapple earned the first alternate spot while Yvette O’Brien is the second alternate. Both players finished at 2-over 74.
