(September 17, 2025) – After being postponed earlier in the year due to rain, the 2025 Two Man Championship is set to be played on Monday, September 22 with Christopher Sica and Joseph Serrantino looking to defend their title.

Tee Times

The par-71 layout will play at approximately 6,600 yards with the field’s best scoring chances coming on the opening two holes of each nine. The first and 10th holes are shorter par-4s while the second and 11th holes are two of the three par-5s on the course.

“The par 5s are the best place to do your attacking but most players will tell you that you don’t do much attacking here,” head professional Andrew Campbell said of the layout that challenged the field of the 2025 Connecticut Open presented by Ascend Bank. “It is really about patience and to be successful, you have to give yourself the most chances of hitting greens from the fairways. It’s hard to score here from the rough.”

The history of the Two Man Championship at the Black Hall Club dates back to 2008 when the course became the yearly home for the tournament. Black Hall Club members, including former CSGA President Peter Bulkeley, pitched the idea of hosting the tournament to the Black Hall Club board on an annual basis in honor of Bill Hermanson and the event has been held at the club ever since.

“Bill is rightfully in the Connecticut Golf Hall of Fame,” Campbell stated. “If he had a jersey number, we would retire it! Bill has not just been a great player for so many years but is the quintessential gentleman on and off the golf course. As a club member, he is adored and admired and we are proud to have him as a long standing member of Black Hall.”

Shifting back to the 2025 event, the Two Man Championship features a unique 36-hole format with teams competing in four-ball for one round and foursomes for the other. Speaking on how Black Hall Club sets up for the varying formats Campbell said, “The morning round of four-balls allows teams to go more on the offensive, to try and get birdies on the getable holes. The alternate shot format puts many teams back on their heels a bit and par is a great score on many of the holes out there.”

The 36-hole shotgun style tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on September 22. In the morning round, players will compete in four-ball, followed by foursomes, selected drive alternate shot in the afternoon.

Teams to Watch:

Christopher Sica (Wallingford CC) & Joseph Serrantino (Wallingford CC): The defending champions will be looking to be the first team to repeat since Rick Dowling and Nick Taylor won in 2018 and 2019.

Bill Hermanson (Black Hall Club) & Dave Szewczul (TPC River Highlands): The Connecticut Golf Hall of Famers, who won the Two Man Championship in 2015 and 2016, are always a threat.

Rick Dowling (Golf Performance Center) & Nick Taylor (Essex County CC): After not playing in the event last year, the winners of three Two Man Championships are back. The duo won the title in 2018, 2019, and 2021.

Cody Paladino (Hartford GC) & James Marzi (Indian Hill CC): Cody Paladino, the five-time reigning Dick Tettelbach Player of the Year has never won the Two Man Championship but of course he is always a threat. This year, Paladino will be paired with James Marzi, who competed in the 2022 Connecticut Amateur.

Ben Day (New Haven CC) & Ed Day (Wallingford CC): The Day brothers are teaming up for a sixth consecutive year at the Two Man Championship. They have never won the title but always seem to be in the mix. In 2021 they finished T3, in 2022 they shared second place, and last year they were T3.

Adam Friedman (Great River GC) & Justin Beal (Timberlin GC): With Adam Friedman in a tight race for Dick Tettelach Play of the Year, the 2025 Connecticut Amateur winner will team up with 2025 Connecticut Public Links winner Justin Beal.
