In the Boys’ Division, Brody DiBeneditto (Highfield Club) and Charlie Perkins (USGA/CSGA GC) shared the top spot with 2-under 69s. Meanwhile, in the Girls’ Division Paige McKenna (eClub of Connecticut) earned a one-shot victory with a 5-over 78.

Brody DiBenneditto carded five birdies and three bogeys on his way to the top of the leaderboard. When speaking about his round DiBenneditto said, “The key to my round was sticking to the basics. Keeping the ball in play, hitting greens, and avoiding three putts.”
Even-par through nine holes, DiBeneditto jump started his 2-under 33 back nine with a birdie on the par-5 11th. Standing 125 yards out DiBenditto stuffed his third shot leading to his first of three birdies against one bogey on the homeward nine.
For Charlie Perkins, it was the tale of two sides. Beginning on the second nine Perkins birdied No. 11 and then on No. 13 hit his approach to tap-in birdie range. Two holes later Perkins jumped to 4-under when he holed out for eagle from 143 yards out on the par-4 15th. A birdie on No. 1 moved Perkins to 5-under before he gave a few shots back with a double-bogey on the fourth and a bogey on the fifth.
“I would say my approach play and my putting were the two keys to my round,” Charlie Perkins said. “From within 180 yards, I felt confident no matter the pin position and my putting inside of 10 feet was excellent.”
The top five was rounded by Andrew Dunn (Shuttle Meadow CC) in third at 1-under while it was Thomas Bonomo (The Stanwich Club), Justin Crossen (Suffield CC), and Maxwell Pawloski (eClub of Connecticut) in a tie for fourth at even-par.
Match play in the Boys’ Division will begin with the Round of 16 on Tuesday morning at 7:30 a.m. The quarterfinals will be played on Tuesday afternoon with the semifinals and finals to follow on Wednesday.
In the Girls’ Division, Paige McKenna signed a scorecard that included one birdie, four bogeys, and a double-bogey. For McKenna, the birdie on the par-4 first was maybe her most important moment of the day.
Beginning her round on the back nine McKenna finished her opening nine holes with a double-bogey on the 18th only to bounce back in a big way on the par-4 first. Looking to flip the script on her day McKenna knocked her wedge tight and converted her only birdie of the round.
McKenna, the top-seed, now turns her attention to match play.
“With match play, I just keep the same mindset: one shot, one hole at a time,” Paige McKenna explained. “You’re never really out of it in match play, so it’s all about staying level-headed and playing smart. I’m just going to control what I can and stay steady.”
Rounding out the top five in the Girls’ Division were Mia Rodgers (Fairview CC) in second at 6-over, Eve Krinsky (eClub of Connecticut) and Sadie Lee (Tashua Knolls GC) in a tie for third at 7-over, and Caroline McShea (eClub of Connecticut) in fifth at 9-over.
The quarterfinals in the Girls’ Division will begin on Tuesday at 12 p.m. with the semifinals and finals to follow on Wednesday.
