Orange, Connecticut (July 1, 2025) – On a day where Zorah Williams’ scorecard featured a little bit of everything it was the five birdies that propelled her to the top of the second round leaderboard at the 4th Connecticut Girls’ Junior presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop.
Beginning day two at Orange Hills Country Club five shots back, Williams wasted no time in announcing her presence.
The recent Emma Willard School graduate split the fairway with her opening tee shot and had just 120-yards left for her approach shot. With a pitching wedge in hand Williams (Stonington CC) stuffed her second shot to within a foot resulting in a kick in birdie.
“It’s always great to be able to see the ball that close to the hole,” Zorah Williams said. “It’s fun to have tap in birdies. I’m never going to complain.”
The birdie on the first was the beginning of an up-and-down day that in addition to five birdies saw Williams bogey five times and double bogey once.
“There hasn’t been anything that’s been truly consistent throughout the first two days,” said the soon to be Wheaton College freshman. “But I’ve just been focusing on my breathing, coming back, resummoning myself has been key for me in trusting what I’m doing on the course.”
Despite the misteps Williams was able to record additional birdies on Nos. 4, 15, 16, and 18. The birdie on the 15th was the result of another stuffed wedge from 120 yards.
So when all was said and done Williams signed for a second round 3-over 75 and at 9-over for the tournament she will hold a comfortable lead heading into the final round.
However, despite the lead Williams isn’t taking anything for granted.
“Tomorrow is another day. A new day. You never know what’s going to happen. You can go out and score or somebody else can go out and score. But I’m going to try to play my game, not let it get in my head, try to keep the pressure out, and follow my routine.”
Overnight leader Sadie Lee (Tashua Knolls GC) will begin the final round in second place at 14-over, Nina Dahl (Club River Oaks) is in third place at 15-over, Elle Reid (Black Hall Club) sits in fourth at 19-over, while in fifth it is Lila Reiling (CC of Farifield) at 25-over.
