Simsbury, Connecticut (August 30, 2021) – Pat Griffin, the two-time reigning One Day Dick Tettelbach Player of the Year winner, fired a 2-under 70 at Hop Meadow Country Club to capture his first One Day Series presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop title of the season. On a warm and humid day Griffin put together a round that included five birdies and three bogeys as he pulled out a one-stroke victory over Chris Flowers (-1) in the Tettelbach Open Division.
Griffin, who has battled some injuries this season, made the turn in even-par 36 before getting hot on the back nine. Following pars on Nos. 10-12 he birdied the 13th and 14th holes back-to-back to jump to 2-under. He did give a stroke back with a bogey on No. 15 only to rebound two holes later with a birdie on the par-4 17th hole.
Last year on his way to his second consecutive Dick Tettelbach Player of the Year honor Griffin picked up wins at the Heritage Village CC, Torrington CC, and Hop Meadow CC One Day events. This year despite not winning on the One Day circuit until late August he has recorded some strong showings in CSGA majors highlighted by a Round of 32 appearance at the Connecticut Amateur while in May he advanced to U.S. Open Final Qualifying thanks in large part to an ace during U.S. Open Local Qualifying at Shuttle Meadow CC.
The top-five of the Tettelbach Open Division was rounded out by Jason Morrow (E) in third while John Sawka and Jason Longo both posted 1-over 73 to finish in a tie for fourth.
In the Siderowf Division Dick Stevens and Dave Jones shared the title with 1-under 71s. Stevens, less than a week removed from winning the 40th Senior Four-Ball, birdied the last two holes to earn his share of the title. It was Stevens, who shot his age, second One Day win of the season after capturing the Tumble Brook CC title in June.
For Jones the win will mark his fifth of the year and first since winning at Simsbury Farms GC in July. Jones nearly carded a bogey free round signing a scorecard that included two birdies and just one bogey. His birdies came on Nos. 9 and 17.
Former long-time Hop Meadow CC member Kevin Foster along with Bill Hermanson shared third at even-par one shot ahead of Ray Underwood and Donal Reilly in a tie for fifth at 1-over.
Pacing the Tettelbach Net Division was Jason Morrow at 4-under followed by David Paquette in second at 3-under. Sawka was third at 2-under with Bret Lawrence, Griffin, and Dave Kramer sharing fourth at 1-under.
Blase Sanzone earned the Siderowf Net Division title with a 4-under day that put him a single shot in front of a large group in a tie for second at 3-under. That group included Scott Harger, Tom Hurd, Ray Underwood, and Carlton Weiman.
