(July 5, 2022) – The inaugural Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur will be contested on July 11-12 with the first round slated for Watertown Golf Club and the final round at the Country Club of Waterbury.
“This season, the golf course has been in tremendous shape and it is an honor to host the final round of the inaugural Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur,” said CC of Waterbury head professional Brad Lusenhop. “The CC of Waterbury has been a great venue for so many championships, and we expect this year will be no different.”
On the final day, the par-71 CC of Waterbury will play at roughly 6,000 yards and the course will serve as a stiff challenge for the field.
“There will be a premium on hitting fairways this year, as the rough is very penal and good decision making will be paramount to the success of the winner,” Lusenhop said. “There are so many great stretches of golf, but none more important than the first three holes. The players will be faced with difficult driving holes and complex green surfaces right away. Getting through those holes at even-par will be a must to claim victory.”
Play at the 1st Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur will begin on Monday afternoon at Watertown Golf Club at 1:30 p.m. before shifting to the Country Club of Waterbury on Tuesday for the final round.
“We are thrilled to have added this additional championship for our competitive junior girl players in the state,” said Marsha Rupp, Director of CSGA Tournament Operations & Women’s Golf. “The new Connecticut Girls’ Junior Amateur is a continuation of CSGA’s mission to expand and promote opportunities for girls golf.”
