Autumn Serruta of the Golf Club of Avon shot a second round 74 (+2) to take a commanding lead at the 52nd Connecticut Women’s Amateur Championship. The state’s most prestigious women’s amateur championship is being contested over 54-holes of stroke play at the 5,826 yard, par-72 layout at Manchester Country Club in Manchester, Conn.

Serruta, who recorded an opening round of 76 to share the overnight lead with Alexandra Sazhin of the Golf Performance Center, carded just three bogies and a birdie on the par-5 15th en-route to a two over-par round of 74. She was able to rebound after a pair of double-bogies on the back nine derailed her opening round, and currently holds a three stroke advantage heading into the final round.

“Today, I tried to keep with my game plan of getting the ball in the fairway and hitting the greens in regulation,” said Serruta. “I putted really well today and made a few crazy par putts that really helped. I managed to avoid making any double bogies which cost me a few shots yesterday.”

Serruta is seeking to capture her first Women’s Amateur title and holds a three stroke advantage over Jen Holland of Lyman Orchards Golf Course, who shot rounds of 78-75—153 for a nine-over par total.  Holland, the 2008 Connecticut Women’s Amateur Champion, has managed to avoid any big mistakes in her quest for the title, making ten bogies and one birdie in her first two rounds.

Sarah Houle, who captured the CIAC Girls Championship earlier this year, sits in third place at twelve over-par and six strokes behind the lead. Anelise Brown of Rolling Hills Country Club and Alexandra Sazhin are tied for fourth place at thirteen over-par.

The final round begins at 7:30 a.m. off the #1 tee, with the leaders beginning play at 9:10 a.m. Live scoring and results will be available online at CTWomensAmateur.com.
