June 10th, 2013 – The fifth tournament of the 2013 CSGA One Day Tournament season concluded today at Cedar Knob Golf Course in Somers, Connecticut. Ninety four competitors battled cool and rainy conditions as they made their way around the 6,734 yard, par-72 layout. Designed by Geoffrey Cornish, Cedar Knob opened for play in 1963 and is celebrating it’s 50th anniversary this year.

Glen Boggini of Twin Hills Country Club shot the low round of the day, firing a 3-under par round of 69 to capture the Tettelbach Division by five shots over recent Russell C. Palmer Cup Champion Cody Paladino and Michael McMorrow of the Conn. PGA Junior Golf Association, both of whom shot rounds of 74. Boggini, playing in the first group of the day, got off to a great start, making the turn in 3-under par 33. His only blemish on the card came on the difficult 230 yard par-3 16th hole. Boggini calmly rebounded with a birdie on the following hole, and a closing par on the 18th proved to be enough for the victory.

The win marks Boggini’s first victory of the 2013 season, and he will look to continue the momentum next week when he begins play at the 111th Connecticut Amateur Championship at New Haven Country Club. His round of 69 matches the low round of the year for the One Day Tournament Series.

In the Siderowf Division, Bob Spaniotis of Glastonbury Hills Country Club recorded a round of 2-over par 74 to win by two shots over Ken Williams and James O’Neill. Spaniotis began the day with birdies on two of his first three holes, but as the weather deteriorated, he recorded bogeys on Holes #4, #5 and #8 to make the turn in 37. However, Spaniotis would rebound and play steady golf on the more difficult inward nine, making only a single bogey to shoot a matching 37 and a round of 74.

Net Division Winners included Scott Harger of Stonington CC, who captured the Tettelbach Net Division with a round of 69, and Fred Moffa of Topstone Golf Course, who captured the Siderowf Net Division with a round of 65.

With their wins, Cody Paladino, Steve Jordan, Lou Stone and Dominic Maselli now lead their respective divisions in the One Day Player of the Year Race, sponsored by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop. New for 2013, the One Day Player of the Year and Runner-Up in each division will be awarded merchandise certificates at Chris Cote’s Golf Shop in Portland, Connecticut. Players will accumulate points based on their finish in individual One Day Tournaments throughout the season.
