Dave Jones goes low at Stonington One Day

STONINGTON, Connecticut (April 12, 2021) – The season’s second One Day Tournament presented by Chris Cote’s Golf Shop was contested on Monday at Stonington Country Club. On an overcast day with the winds howling and temperatures struggling to feel like they were above 40 degrees, the low round of the day belonged to Dave Jones with an impressive 5-under 67 to capture the Siderowf Division (55 and over) title by eight shots over Bill Hermanson (+3).

Kyle Nolin shared the Tettelbach
Gross Division title.

In recent years Jones has been fighting cancer but has still persevered to continue playing golf. Jones, who celebrated his 59th birthday on Monday, got his round off to a good start with a birdie on the opening par-5 and didn’t slow down throughout the day carding a total of six birdies and just a single bogey. His lone dropped shot of the day came on the 16th hole but he quickly got it back with a closing birdie on the par-5 18th. The victory was the second One Day Tournament title for Jones in the last two seasons. Last year Jones captured the Ellington Ridge Country Club title.

The top-5 in the Siderowf Gross Division was rounded out by Dick Stevens in third at 4-over, while Frank Geiger and Tom Brett shared fourth at 5-over.

In the Tettelbach Open Division (Under 55) Christopher Delucia and Kyle Nolin shared the top spot with even-par 72s. 2-over for his round heading to the final hole Delucia finished his round with an eagle to go along with one birdie and three bogeys. Nolin played a steady round opening with 12 consecutive pars before slipping up with a double-bogey on the par-4 13th. Unfazed, Nolin bounced back with birdies on the 15th and 18th holes to bring his round back to level-par for the day.

Two shots back in a tie for third at 2-over were Mike Kennedy and Brian Zito, in fifth place, it was Cody Paladino at 5-over.
